About Renee Smith, MD
Renee Smith, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Regenerative Orthopedics Institute in San Luis Obispo, California. Recognized as one of the leading physicians of the world by the International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, she has over 20 years of experience in the field of orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. She received her training in orthopedics at the University of California, Davis from world-renowned surgeons in the field. She spent several years teaching residents in New York at the State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center before settling on the Central Coast over ten years ago.
Dr. Smith continues to teach students as a regular guest lecturer at California Polytechnic State University in the Department of Materials and Engineering. Dr. Smith obtained her training in the techniques of stem cell harvesting and isolation from Dr. Maritza Novas, the Chief Medical Officer of Global Stem Cell Group, and world leaders in the field.
She has a special interest in regenerative medicine and believes these emerging techniques provide options for treatment other than highly invasive surgery. A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Smith is highly qualified in treating all types of musculoskeletal problems. She provides treatments for conditions including PRP, options for non-surgical surgery and arthritis.
She takes a comprehensive and integrative approach to care and can perform arthroscopic surgery if conservative treatments are unsuccesful. She is affiliated with Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and San Luis Obispo Surgery Center. Dr. Smith is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, and International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons.
